The Qalb (heart) must be cleansed of its ailments to fulfill the purpose of its existence - ‘Uboodiyah. Through the tazkiyah (purification) of the nufoos, the hearts are purified and adorned resulting in “tathirul quloob” (purification of the hearts). This process involves a cycle beginning with the acquisition of ‘ilm (knowledge), resulting in a burst of repentance. This is acquired and sustained only through mujaahadah (struggle against the nafs), which leads toward the ultimate goal of nearness to Allah (swt).
